How does Shelfy work?

Shelfy, our smart purifier for the refrigerator, is the perfect solution to fight food waste. But how does it do all this? Thanks to photocatalytic technology: the air in the fridge is channeled toward the ceramic filter inside Shelfy, and when the visible band LED light above it hits, it activates the reaction that eliminates pollutants on a molecular level. Shelfy thus uses advanced technology to guarantee maximum safety and freshness in the fridge, surpassing the limitations of traditional odor absorbers and ozone generators. While absorbers only remove odors without affecting microorganisms and risk becoming pollutants themselves if not replaced regularly, ozone generators, despite eliminating odors and microorganisms, can compromise the quality and flavor of foods. Shelfy, instead, combines innovation and effectiveness without health risks or risks to the food.

How does the photocatalytic filter work?

The filter is the heart of Shelfy's technology. Its “sponge-like” structure allows for an increased available surface area, thereby maximizing effectiveness. The greatest advantage is that, unlike HEPA filters, the photocatalytic filter does not trap pollutants, but eliminates them at a molecular level. This feature makes the Shelfy filter washable and reusable, reducing waste of both materials and money. To perform filter maintenance, simply rinse the filter under running water once a month: just separate the cases and hold the filter under the water stream for about ten seconds without removing it from its housing. Once dry, it’s as good as new and ready to go back in your fridge!

How do I recharge Shelfy?

Charging Shelfy is really simple! When you see that Shelfy's LED has turned red, just remove it from the fridge and place it on a dry surface, letting it acclimate for about 15 minutes to avoid condensation. We recommend using the included cable along with a charger of at least 15W, which should read “output 5V=3A” on the description (with a lower power rating, the charging time will progressively increase as the power decreases). Once charging, the LED around the button will start flashing white.
Under ideal conditions, since Shelfy is equipped with a powerful 10,400 mAh battery (comparable to large power banks or a latest-generation MacBook laptop!), a full charge takes about 7 hours. When the device is fully charged, the LED around the center button will illuminate green.

Where is it best to place Shelfy in the fridge?

Shelfy's design is compact and stylish, perfect for easily placing inside your fridge even if space is limited. You can position it either vertically, resting on its dedicated feet, or horizontally. It's only important to ensure that the air intake and outlet areas are not obstructed, and that there isn’t a risk of accidentally pressing the button.

Which mode should I use for my Shelfy?

Shelfy has 3 modes, depending on your needs.

The Eco mode optimizes energy consumption while ensuring purification effectiveness. It typically lasts for 3 weeks and is recommended for daily use. The Crisper mode, on the other hand, is designed for targeted action when Shelfy is in the fruit and vegetable drawer, and lasts a few days less than Eco mode. Finally, the Performance mode is meant to give your fridge a temporary and intensive purification boost. The typical duration is about 5 days, so we suggest using it only when needed (for instance, when loading the fridge with many odorous ingredients).

To change the mode, simply use the appropriate section in the app or press the button. The flashing speed of the LED will indicate which mode is selected: Eco (slow flash, 4.5 seconds), Crisper (normal flash, 1.5 seconds), and finally Performance (very fast flash, 0.5 seconds).
A very important feature is that Shelfy does not operate 24/7, but works in hourly purification cycles and therefore alternates between periods of activity and inactivity. This has been designed with battery optimization in mind, as well as the fact that the refrigerator's environment is constantly changing, making it important to have a long-term view to keep food fresh longer.
