It is normal for Shelfy and the refrigerator sensor to not show exactly the same temperature value. The differences can depend on various factors:
- Different position: the internal temperature of the refrigerator is not uniform. Even two very close points can differ by up to about 1°C.
- Cooling cycles and thermal inertia: Shelfy's temperature sensor is protected by its casing and shows the daily temperature oscillations due to refrigeration cycles. Other sensors may react more quickly or more slowly to these fluctuations and may only provide an average summary value of the trend.
- Influence of nearby surfaces: the refrigerator shelf is a cold surface and some sensors may be closer to it, thus recording slightly lower values. Shelfy, instead, thanks to the protection of its casing, is not in direct contact with the shelf and is less affected by this effect.
- Device tolerance: each sensor has a precision margin (±0.5°C or ±1°C), so it is normal for two different instruments not to match perfectly.
