7 tips to refresh your home

Declutter

The first step on the spring cleaning list is to declutter your space. This will help you clear your house of objects you no longer need and to change things up with more seasonal home decor.

Don’t throw away the objects you no longer need, but try to see if any of your friends are interested in them or donate them to a local charity. In this way you will not only avoid unnecessary waste, but your belongings will find a new owner who might need them more and get a second chance.

Set a cleaning routine

Remember that you don’t have to do everything in one sitting. Cleaning your entire house can be very challenging, not only for the time needed but also mentally. You can start small and begin cleaning the rooms you use daily, such as the kitchen, living room and bedroom.

Since spring cleaning is more profound than regular cleaning, don’t forget to clean neglected places like dusting the top of the furniture, emptying cupboards and drawers to clean their surface and move furniture around to clean behind it. A great tip is to start from top to bottom as to prevent dirt from accumulating on spaces you’ve already cleaned.

After you’ve done all of this, you can move on to other spaces like the attic or garage. Breaking down the cleaning to one task at a time is the key to ensure you don’t get too overwhelmed.

Use natural cleaning products

Cleaning is not only done for aesthetic reasons, but also for our health. We get rid of dirt, bacteria and pollutants accumulated in our house. What we often tend to overlook is the danger of the cleaning products we use, which are full of chemicals and VOCs. So why not opt for natural cleaning products when they are both safer and cheaper?

In fact, many natural cleaning products can be prepared with ingredients we already have at home, such as vinegar, lemon and baking soda. If you’re busy and would rather buy eco-friendly alternatives, there are many products available on the market today which don’t contain harmful chemicals, use a sustainable packaging and create less waste in general (here’s some inspiration).

Control humidity

As temperatures rise, so do humidity levels. High humidity can encourage the growth of mold and dust mites, that is why it’s important to make sure the humidity levels in your house are always in the optimal range, which is between 30% and 50%.

Using a dehumidifier can be helpful, but don’t forget to aerate your space, especially in the morning when the air is cooler, so that air recirculation can bring fresher air inside your home.

Get some plants

Never underestimate the natural power of plants! They bring more life to the room, boost your productivity, make you happier, and according to the 1989 NASA Clean Air Study, some of them are even able to purify your indoor air.

How do they do it? Harmful substances are retained inside the soil, where thanks to the presence of microorganisms near the roots they are broken down to become nourishment for the plant itself. The most common pollutants that are eliminated by plants are formaldehyde, benzene, xylene and toluene, but each plant works on different pollutants.

We wrote a more in-depth blog post about the best air purifying plants and their characteristics. If you were wondering, Vitesy’s favorite plant is Snake Plant!

Reuse and recycle

Making sure you create as little waste as possible and properly recycle materials it’s a given. But there’s many more creative ways to see this. A fun little project you could work on is to find objects in your house (or use the ones you decluttered earlier and did not throw away yet) and give them a second life. Some ideas include:

  • Repurpose empty containers (cleaning sprays, jam jars…): use them to create your own natural homemade cleaning products, use them to store grains or as plant pots.
  • Upcycle clothes: instead of throwing them away or using them as cleaning cloths (which is actually another great tip!) you can cut them up, sew or glue them together to create new bags, shirts, skirts or even napkins.
  • Upcycle furniture: sanding and painting furniture you already have can spice things up in the room! You can even buy second hand furniture and start from there to work on new, exciting projects.

Clean your air with Natede Smart

Our Natede Smart combines almost all of these tips: it has a plant, monitors humidity levels, and cleans your air from harmful pollutants. It’s made in Italy with recycled materials, and it’s also an elegant design object for your home, perfect for spring.

It combines the natural purification power of plants with the innovative photocatalytic technology to provide great results and purifies the air inside your home so you can always breathe healthy, clean air. There are no filters to change, since the pollutants aren’t captured by the filter but eliminated at molecular level thanks to the chemical reaction activated by the visible band LEDs near the filter.

It monitors temperature, humidity, VOCs, CO2 and PM2.5 in real time, so you can check the air quality in your home any time, wherever you are.

This spring, gift yourself the luxury of breathing cleaner and healthier air.
