How does natural purification work?

According to a study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), domestic air pollution is responsible for almost 10% of mortality in low and medium-developed countries, and that indoor pollution is up to 5 times worse than that outdoors.

Nature continues to amaze us and it does not surprise us that there are some plants that have the ability to remove pollutants from inside the air. Some plants, such as Spathiphyllum, Aloe or Anthurium, are not only able to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen but also purify the air neutralize volatile organic substances (VOCs) often present in our homes thanks to enzymes called methylotrophs.

These microorganisms capture the substances that pollute our environments every day and transform them into nourishment for the plant. Vitesy used this property and amplified it, creating Natede natural air purifier.

Natede: nature, technology, and design

Natede is a natural air purifier that combines the purifying properties of plants and a technology unit that amplifies the power of nature.

By placing a plant inside the Natede, it metabolizes a higher level of pollutants than a plant placed in a normal pot, since the air purification process takes place through the roots. We have combined the power of phytoremediation with an incredible new air-filtering process: photocatalysis. Photocatalysis allows Natede, unlike normal air purifiers, to eliminate pollutants in the air - and not simply capture them inside the filter!

Polluted air is retained by the plant from top to bottom, passing through the roots. Here the air is filtered by retaining larger compounds, such as dust and animal hair. Through the photocatalytic filter, the air is filtered further where even the smallest polluting particles are destroyed. Thanks to the photocatalytic filter, Natede is able to eliminate pollutants and effectively reduce the odors of pets, cigarettes and cigars, kitchen odors, mold, etc.

Which plant should I choose for my natural air purifier?

The first step to being ready to use Natede in the best way is to get a plant. Not all plants are suitable inside the Natede! It’s important to choose plants that already have purifying properties in nature. In this way, Natede will be able to boost these plants. Each plant is different and has different purifying abilities. Among our favorites we find:

  • Sansevieria Trifasciata - better known as Mother-in-law's tongue. It is perfect in any place because it doesn’t require much care and is perfect for eliminating Benzene, Formaldehyde, Trichloroethylene, Xylene, and Toluene from your environment.
  • Aloe Vera - perfect to place in the bedroom as it produces oxygen at night. Purify your air while eliminating Benzene and Formaldehyde.
  • Spathiphyllum - known by the common name of Peace Lily, it removes most of the pollutants such as Benzene, Formaldehyde, Trichloroethylene, Xylene, Toluene, and Ammonia. Just wet it often because it requires a lot of water!

The perfect soil and fertilizer

After choosing your favorite plant, it's time to put it inside your air purifier! For a perfect crop, we recommend using a good quality soil mix suitable for long-cycle crops and fertilizer. The ideal fertilizer is Osmocote Pro NEW (5-6 M) or with a similar title (19-9-10 + 2MgO + TE).

For a perfect mix, combine about 1.5L of soil with 4 grams of fertilizer. With this mix, you can now add your plant inside your Natede and it can grow luxuriantly.

How to properly water your plant inside Natede

What makes Natede so special is its self-watering system. One of the most common mistakes is to overwater your plant. This makes it easy and intuitive to understand when the plant placed inside the Natede needs to be watered. When the float that marks the water level has lowered completely, it means that it is time to refill the tank.

During the first installation, we suggest you not turn on the product for the first 4 days of cultivation. In addition, during the first 2 days, it’s important to water the plant with about 0.5L of water per day and to fill the water tank at the same time. This way the plant has a way to adapt to the new place and be ready to purify your air.

What to do if the plant needs more water?

There is the possibility that some plants that require a lot of water, such as Spathiphyllum and Anthurium, need more water than they should, especially during summer where the water inside the tank tends to evaporate quickly.

For this, we recommend that you raise the outer pot of your Natede and place it inside the sink and wet the plant directly from the soil. In this way, you can deeply wet the plant and give it all the necessary water and avoid wetting the electronic components inside the air purifier.

Remove dried leaves

It’s essential to always keep your plants under control. If we want to take care of them with love and attention we must always observe them. Any change in the soil or leaves can be a synonym for some problem.

For example, if there is little humidity inside the environment (especially in winter) the leaves tend to turn yellow and dry out. For this, it is essential to cut the dry parts of a plant leaving a margin of one millimeter. This way the plant will immediately reform a new leaf. In this way, we prevent the plant from spreading diseases due to any bacteria and molds that accumulate in the non-vital parts of the plant and that multiply if not treated and removed.

The perfect light for the Natede air purifier

Usually to grow a plant you need two things: water and light. This is why it is essential to choose the perfect place for your plant in the house. Each plant is different and has different needs. Generally, no plants like direct sunlight. For this reason, we suggest placing your Natede in a bright place where the sunlight can reach without risking drying the leaves too much and damaging the plant.

Why is light so important for plants?

Plants need sunlight to perform chlorophyll photosynthesis - the process that nourishes the plant itself. This is why it is essential for their growth and maintenance.

But what to do if you are in an office where natural light does not come in? There is no reason to worry! In fact, many plants manage to grow even with artificial light. LED lamps, although they cannot be comparable to sunlight, can help plants to grow.

Sunlight has the full range of colors of the rainbow, but the fundamental ones for plant growth are red and blue.

The red helps the elongation of the stem of the plant and determines flowering, as it marks the length of the days for the plants. The blue, on the other hand, leads to growth during germination and after flowering. For this reason, even plants that only receive artificial LED light can grow despite the absence of sunlight.

Now all that remains is to use these tips to grow healthy and lush plants!
